CHOIR TRIP TO VIENNA ADVENT SINGING FESTIVAL

Author: naillig

30 members of BPC joined by 6 friends from Ordsall A Capella singers have just returned from a sensational trip to 2017 Advent Singing Festival.  After a morning of sight seeing, a full programme of performances including Senior Citizens Home Prater, open air at the Christmas market in front of the Schoenbrunn Palace, taking part in the morning service at the beautiful Church of the Cross, Cumberlandstr Vienna, the trip climaxed with our performance at the Festival hall of the Rathaus Town Hall.  Notably the most sumptuous venue for a choir concert, we were blown away by the venue and the standard of the other choirs, particularly the Larne Concert Choir Ireland and Veriente Burghardt’sche Mannerchore male voice choir from Germany.

We had had opportunities to sing along with these two choirs as we shared our hotel with the Irish choir and spent most evenings in the hotel bar, regailing fellow guests with raucous singing. We also shared an evening at the picturesque old wine village of Gumpoldskirchen. As the name suggests the local wine flowed and after a delicious supper had the opportunity to sing together once more.  With this in mind we were intrigued to hear these two choirs perform at the festival and they didn’t disappoint. It was thus very heart warming to receive these comments at the following reception, “we thought you were singing to us personally you really connect with the audience” and “ I know which choir I would like to join” job done - well done Mr Borradaile!

A massive thanks must go to Liz Beaumont who once again demonstrated her huge capacity for organising wonderful trips and managing whatever the situation throws at us, ably supported by Derek Adams.
